believe you can sell; you want to be known for how well you compete by selling as an effective salesperson.
Then it is action time.
Every sale involves some skills of some kind, and since
you cannot sell by merely whispering or using sign language, the first skill
you must have is effective communication.
To become
effective in communicating any idea in a way that people are persuaded to take
action or give a desired respond, you must be able to demonstrate knowledge of
idea communicated.
When you are communicating a product idea, you should know
better than others what the product is about.
So, you want to
build skill in order to build confidence in your selling ability, you should
know the product you want to sell.
Having believed you can sell, choose the product you want to sell and begin your studies of the product so you can effectively communicate its features and benefits to your prospect.
You cannot excuse your ignorance of the product you are selling.
You cannot just guess
about the product in the market. Before you take the product out, do your
research on it. You needed to research the supplier, speak with the supplier,
get the product, and try the product yourself.
If you have
tried the product, you will be able to learn more about the product from others
who have tried the product. Does the supplier have a customer data for the
product you are selling?
That data will
add to your knowledge of the product, as you will see why the product is
attractive to some group of buyers and is not attractive to others.
You need to
know all the features that makes the product attractive. The product can only
sell when you know how to make it attractive to your prospect.
If it is a new
product in the market, you need to know why the manufacturer created the
product in the first place. Who did the manufacturer make the product for? What
will the product do for the user?
Gather valuable product knowledge before attempting to sell,
and doing this will help you build
confidence in selling and that will be key to having the right attitude to
determine your sales career success.
